Hey All,
Sorry I haven't really been keeping up with updates. I hope that by reading
everyone else's updates you have been able to keep up with the journey.
Super quick recap. . . glacier beautiful, cascades wicked hard to climb,
Oregon coast outstandingly beautiful yet very rainy, redwoods are mind
blowing, I'd move to San Fran if I could afford it, LA to San Diego is
a monster urban sprawl with more people than i saw from MN to WA combined,
finishing the trip was worth it.
Moral of the 6200 miles story. . . don't believe the evening news; this
country is filled with kind, generous, wonderful people.
Special thanks to Brad, Jack, and Clare who opened their homes in Southern
LA and made the journey through megaloupolous possible. And of course
to Rachel-Keridwen for putting up with me and these trips of mine, What
a women!!!
Peace,
Max

Hey All
It's been a while since my last post so I'm not going to even try to recap
all that has happened. We are currently in Havre, MT. We have had almost
a full week of banging tail wind and have been putting in a lot of miles.
I think we have done 4 or 5 90 milers in a row.
The heat started getting pretty bad a few days back so we have been trying
to wake up early in the morning to get the miles in before the sun bakes
us. Well yesterday we took it to a whole new level when Lucas, Leon, Kristy,
and I woke up at 1:00 AM and packed up to hit the road a little before
2:00. WE road by moonlight until the sun rose and had 90 miles done by
11:15 in the morning. With very limited sleep and lots of exercise we
got a little loopy while stopping for breakfast around 8:00. All in all
it was a great time. We beat the heat, had the road to ourselves, and
had some of the most entertaining conversation (that of it that we remember).
I think we are going to do it again tomorrow.
I am enjoying the last few days of flat until we have climb after climb
(Rockies, Cascades, etc.) to get to Seattle. I am excited to get to the
Coast and take a little time off and visit with Keridwen who hopefully
is going to fly in for Labor Day weekend.
Well, I've got some riding to do yet today so, keep praying for those
winds out of the East and for the fires in Glacier to get under control!

July 3, 2003
Hello All!
It is July 3rd and I am in Cleveland taking a day off. Today is
the best day yet on this trip. Why you ask . . . Reason 1. Tonight
I had the honor of giving the bravest 14 year old ever a gorgeous mullet.
Samantha Kelty agreed to let me cut her mid-back lenght hair into a great
eighties style mullet and it turned out great! It has been a dream
of mine for the last few years to bring the mullet back to the forefront
of fashion and tonight was one huge step. Reason 2. We talked
the second parent into sending their child with us on our cross-country
trip (the first being Patrick in Niagra Falls). I'm not sure what
about us inspires people with the confidence that we are good role models
and parental figures (i.e. I just gave someone a mullet), but this is
addition #2 so we must look somewhat respectable still. Josh will
join us next week when he finishes a class he is currently in. We
are hoping to role into Mexico with 15-20 bikers as we pick them up along
the way.
Well it is late and Pam's trampoline is calling my name to come sleep
on it. I am sure to fall asleep tonight with a huge smile.
Long live the mullet!
